Species of Fear: The Evolution of Mankind

For million of years, human brain evolved mainly on Negative Default Mode for our survival.

For million of years, human brain evolved mainly on Negative Default Mode for our survival. Things we encounter and perceive by our senses are considered destructive and bad unless proven otherwise. If you see a saber-tooth tiger on your left and beautiful flowers with a colorful rainbow on your right, your brain’s attention would definitely be focused on the left for your survival.

We encounter hundreds of saber tooth tigers everyday (fixing the kids, taking care of the house, rushing to work, be in the traffic, dealing with your boss, beating deadlines, protecting your career). Commercialized journalism and social media continuously bombard our brain with fear.  Our brains are scared and overstimulated (even with video games, social media, and the “high note” food of too  sweet, too salty and too greasy). We are addicted to the overstimulation. We are even faced with “decision overload”.  Fear and anxiety cloud our prefrontal cortex, making this “thinking brain” regress.

With evolution, we would eventually end up fat, scared, dumb two-legged animals roaming around this earth, no longer the dominant species. And the sad part of this, it was man-made.

Slow down.

Turn off your gadgets.

Disconnect from the external environment.

… and meditate.

Know your inner self.
