Walking: Low Impact and With Health Benefits

Author: Renato De La Rosa, MD

Walking is a low impact activity with good health benefits. Here are some other facts that I want to share.
– Low impact and with good health benefits
– Considered as moderate intensity exercise
– Recommendation by CDC: 10,000 cumulative steps per day
– Equivalent to 8 km or 5 miles
– Most people in the US walk 3,000-4,000 steps per day (less than 5,000 steps per day is considered to be sedentary)
– If an individual walks less than 4 km  in his job, most likely he is sedentary (Most likely, he would not walk for long kilometers when he gets home.)
– Technology and labor-saving devices have made our lives less physically active.
– People don’t like to exercise because they don’t like to be short of breath. They don’t like to lift weights because they don’t like their muscles to get sore.  They don’t like to do intermittent fasting because they don’t like the feelings of hunger.  Simply, they don’t like challenges and overcome things. They always wanted to be just comfortable.
– “Too much comfort is an antidote to progress and success.”
